who we are |
|||||
| Rossendale Valley Sounds is a community wind band, which
was formed in October 1994. The band was formed with the aim of allowing
players of any standard to join the band. Over 10 years on this is still
the aim, and is working very well.
The ages of band members varies greatly - people from 10 to 70 are members, and there is also a broad range of abilities, with members from almost beginners to talented grade eight players. About three quarters of the members attend schools in the valley, such is the emphasis on youth, although members regularly travel from as far away as Preston to play. We rehearse every Thursday evening, except in school holidays, at Fearns Community High School, Bacup OL13 0TG. We play from 7.15 PM to 9.15 PM, with a short tea-break. As it says above, anyone can join, so if you play a wind instrument why not come along and have a play? We have a vast repertoire, ranging from Vaughan-Williams to The Beach Boys, and from The Planets to The Dambusters, so there is bound to be something you enjoy! |
